Wine Glass Charms

OK, so my first introduction to wine glass charms was one of annoyance that quickly turned to love of the novelty. Charms for wine glasses seemed to make an appearance in the late 1990's/early 2000's and quickly became a trend that grew in leaps and bounds. Wine glasses are an important part of a wine connoisseurs collection and charms add an extra special touch.

I was first introduced to wine glass charms by my mother. One day we were enjoying a perfectly sunny afternoon with the family gathered for a BBQ. The wine was flowing and our wine glasses were always full. I kept hearing this "clinking" noise that sounded like metal on glass and after a while I just had to ask "What in the world is that noise?". My mother replied that I must be asking about her wine glass charm, her lucky charm because it means that she never loses her glass of wine to some wine thief. Of course this prompted the question "What is a wine charm?". She answered me and ever since I have been charmed!

Wine glass charms are usually made of some type of metal (from gold to silver to pewter and beyond) and they are designed to fit around the stems of a wine glasses. Another popular option is plastic or glass beads.  These charms come in endless designs and forms. The charm part is dangles along the base of the wine glasses and is connected to the stem by a little circle of metal or plastic that wraps around the stem. Wine glasses were made for these quaint little charms.

What is the Wine Glass Charm Purpose?

I will admit that at first glance there appears to be no other purpose than to annoy you if you are easily annoyed by clinking sounds, but the purpose of wine glass charms quickly becomes apparent. If you have these little charms then you and you guests will never lose their wine glasses ever again. I cannot stress how important this is. I can't tell you how many times I have been at a party and put my wine glass down, only to come back to it and there is another wine glass sitting right next to where I put mine. Of course I do not remember which one is mine, they look identical, but if I had a charm dangling from my wine glasses then I would immediately know which one is mine. I avoid embarrassment and germs by always knowing which glass is mine!

They also make fantastic gifts and if you continually struggle with coming up with unique gifts to give a hostess or someone for their birthday or anniversary then look no further. They are great gifts to give, whether you know the person well or not!

The advantages of wine glass charms are as follows:

  • They come in themed sets. There is something there for everyone. Don't forget to give a set of wine glasses as well!
  • You can create your own set or have a set of charms made for the gift recipient.
  • They are made with many different materials to suit every design and taste.
  • They make surprisingly classy wedding favors or house warming gifts.
  • They are versatile and can be used as charms for candles or as napkin rings.
  • Most importantly, you will never lose your glass of wine again!

Make wine not war! Peace!

My wife and I like to try to find charms from and about the different places we travel/vacation to. We have some from Hawaii,Seattle and Las Vegas that remind us of good times in those places. It's a fun little collection hobby and fun to pull out new (or old) charms after a while.

I love wine and TKA. ;o)
