Showers and Their Design and Function

Showers range from your basic stand up shower to your flashy dual marble shower. There are three main types of showers that will be discussed here along with some design choices for your consideration. Whether you are considering a remodel or are building your home from scratch, your showers are a main component that should be considered carefully and all options should be explored.

The Prefabricated Shower

For those looking for an easy remodel or an easier cleaning option or are on a budget then pre-fabricated showers are the option to choose. These showers are typically made from pre molded materials such as fiberglass, synthetic marble, acrylic or laminate. These showers are easy to install and clean and are airtight. These pre-fab showers often come with shelves, benches, shower doors and in a variety of colors to suit every-one's needs and design choices. They are inexpensive and are great showers for the budget conscience. Often these one piece options are too large for a remodel, so they do offer multi piece pre-fabrication that consist of a shower pan and solid panels that will easily fit through your already existing doors!

You probably think of health spas and gyms when you think of steam showers. You are right, they are often found at these places because of their relaxing and luxurious qualities, but that is no reason that you cannot enjoy one at your residential home! A steam shower would be the ultimate in luxury and maybe not the most practical remodel or design when thinking of showers, but should not be dismissed as only available at health spas and resorts. Steam showers would require their own self contained enclosure in order to protect building materials such as drywall and paint from the damaging effects of steam. A steam generator would be required to produce the vapor that these showers are famous for.

The Walk-In Shower

The most popular and versatile shower is the walk in shower. These showers are what most of us are accustomed to and can be seen in practically every home with indoor plumbing. Walk in showers range from the standard shower and bath combination most of us are familiar with to the shower that encompasses and entire wet-room. Appropriate flooring is essential when a walk in shower is called for. Normally the entire floor of the shower room is water proof, especially those in wet-rooms where the shower is open to the entire room!

Walk in showers can be tile, marble, synthetic material and even rocks! The design choices are endless as well as the types of walk in showers. Most will be accesses from some sort of panel door, usually a glass door that swings out or slides to reveal the shower within. Walk in showers can have a single shower spout or multiple spouts depending on your preference. You can have dual showers so two people can shower under their own spout a the same time. You can have multiple spouts that span the length of the body, mostly for massaging those tired muscles.

Regardless of your design choice or remodeling needs, there is a whole world of showers to explore. The bathroom should be viewed as necessary but also as a small getaway where you can enjoy a relaxing shower every day!

Beautiful Shower Re-Model

This video makes me very jealous and I one day hope to have a shower as gorgeous as the one seen here. I just wanted you all to see an example of a different type of shower!  No need for shower curtains here!
