Bustier or Bust

By

To start I think it might be best to clear up the whole bustier and corset argument. Is it a corset bustier?  What is the difference between a bustier and a corset?

For all intents and purposes...Not much, but there is enough depending on what you are wearing to for to make a choice between one or the other.

A corset offers maximum control over your hips and waist. They cover you from your bust down to your hips and have attached garter belts for holding up your stockings. Corsets are amazing for offering a sleek look for your outer clothing and make your waist look smaller. They range in sizes from petite to plus size. Traditional corsets were made from bone and were used as almost a torture device in medieval times with many women breaking ribs and passing out from the fashion of the day. Today corsets are made mostly from a strong mesh material and flexible plastic boning. Style, material and color choices are almost infinite so finding one to suit your needs should be easy, or overwhelming depending on which way you look at it.

A bustier is very similar to the corset and just like the corset was once worn strictly underneath clothing. Today however, many women icons have made the wearing of bustiers as outerwear so common that it is a fashion trend that seems to never die. A bustier is great for hiding that problem waist and accentuate the bust-line. A bustier starts at the bust and ends at the waist and offers little in the way of support or thinning of the waist like a corset does. Where the corset shapes the body of the woman, the bustier is more of a strapless bra that supports the bust and offers some slimming effect to the waist, but not to the extent of the corset. Bustiers are considered much more comfortable than corsets and are not as restricting. They are both a strapless lingerie garment. Another major difference is that a bustier always covers the breasts while a corset typically does not.

The Bustier as Eveningwear

A bridal bustier is wha most people are familiar with but since the bustier has made its way "out of the closet" it has become a widely accepted outer garment. The bustier top is simple to wear under your office suit and then that suit becomes instant evening wear when you remove the jacket to reveal just your bustier. Suddenly your drab office attire becomes a quick and sexy outfit for getting drinks after work. Many fashion designers today use bustiers all the time in their designs. A lot of dresses now incorporate the look of a bustier on the top to create a very sexy and alluring dress.  You could always try a leather bustier for ulitmate hotness.

The Fit

The most important thing to keep in mind when buying a bustier is the fit.  Regarding the fit, the most important thing to remember is your bra size.  You will typically purchase a bustier by your bra size, but it is important to use your CORRECT bust size and not the size you think you are.  Make sure you are measured before purchasing any undergarment as it will make the difference between you being comfortable or cursing the day you ever heard the word bustier.  Considering that bustiers are used to accentuate the breasts, this should be common sense, but so many women wear the incorrect bra size to begin with that it is completely reasonable to think most women would probably buy the incorrect size of bustier too.

I thought "bustier" was an adjective. Turns out it is a noun, but I guess it could be both if your bustier makes you bustier...

To sillysqrrl: So in other words you would have plastered it if the terms & conditions allowed it?

A simple Yes / No will suffice. Thanks.
